In August 2012 I finished painting this barn in Allegany County, MD. The barn is at the Leaning Pine farm in the town of Mt. Savage. The poem is by local poet Nina Forsythe. Each big star is 14ft by 14ft, about 20ft high at the highest point, and the painted area covers about 50ft in length. Here is the text of the poem:
The farmer is like an angel of the machinery of the earth --
its muscle and gears, its pumps and balances -- his feet
deep in granite rock beds, his head turned to the sun.
Cross the border and explore the topography of his country,
the hidden water table, the trade routes plied across
the corrugated soil. No passport needed.
